In Memoriam

Heather Ross

(Sept. 5, 1965 - Jan. 14, 2007)

Heather Ross, NCYL’s beloved Director of Finance and Administration, died at her home in Alamo, CA on Jan. 14 after a long battle with cancer. Heather was 41.

A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, Heather worked at NCYL from April 2002 to July 2005, when she became too ill to continue working. Heather was a generous champion of the less fortunate children of the world, and a loving mother to her own two children. After years as a high-level corporate accountant and analyst, she turned her attention to non-profit causes; first with a Housing Association in Edinburgh, and then, when she and her family moved to California, with NCYL.

Heather will be most remembered among her NCYL colleagues for her warmth, humor, courage, and incredible devotion to her family. Her intelligence, her competence, and her tremendous wit and irreverence will be deeply missed.

Heather is survived by her husband, Ken Ross, their son, Duncan, 15, and daughter, Eleanor, 12. Also surviving are her parents, Anne and Craig Ramsay, and brothers Craig and Alan, all living in Scotland. A service celebrating Heather’s life was held at Hull’s Walnut Creek Chapel on Monday, January 22.

A website has been set up to commemorate Heather’s life:
