Tracy Schroth

Tracy has worked in non-profit communications for the past 12 years, managing the communications of both local and national organizations. In her former life, Tracy was an award-winning journalist, working as a daily newspaper reporter on the East Coast, where she covered crime, politics, and the courts. She was also a staff writer for the New Jersey Law Journal, a statewide legal publication, and spent a year abroad as newscaster for “Metropolis,” an English-language radio station in Prague, Czech Republic. Tracy received her MSJ with distinction from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, and a BS in Political Science from Ithaca College.

Prior to joining NCYL in 2004, Tracy served as communications director for Civic Ventures, a national non-profit in San Francisco that works to expand the role of older adults in public service. She was also director of outreach and communications for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Santa Cruz County, which pairs volunteer advocates with children in the foster care system. Tracy lives with her family in Emeryville, CA, where she is an active member of RULE, a residents’ group dedicated to increasing transparency of city government and protecting citizens’ quality of life.  

Nancy Berger

Nancy Berger joined NCYL in October 2010. She earned her B.S. from Tulane University in 1993, and has spent more than a decade in fundraising helping non-profit organizations fulfill their visions. She brings a wealth of experience in philanthropy, including leadership in the areas of foundation support, individual giving, and special events. Most recently she served as Donor Relations Manager at Knoxville Zoological Gardens where she oversaw a capital campaign to rebuild a significant portion of the zoo. She worked in educational fundraising as Director of Corporate and Foundation Support at the Museum of the City of New York, and spent seven years as a grant writer for the Exploratorium.

Hayden Lilien

Hayden joined NCYL in October 2009. She earned her B.S. in Finance from the University of Florida in 2002, and a joint JD/MBA from Stetson University College of Law in 2005. Hayden was an associate at Wicker, Smith, O’hara, McCoy, Graham, & Ford in Orlando, Fla. before moving to the Bay Area to begin a career in finance.

Hayden has provided extensive business and administrative services to Bay Area non-profits that serve youth. Prior to joining NCYL, Hayden was Business and Human Resources Manager for the Creative Arts Charter School in San Francisco.

Ethel Oden-Brown

Ethel Oden-Brown has worked at NCYL since 1983. Before that time, as a legal secretary, she ran a private law firm with offices in both San Francisco and Oakland. She has also worked as a secretary for the Community Development Program in the City of Richmond.


Miranda Perry

Miranda joined NCYL in June 2012. She earned her B.A. in Geography in 2006 and B.A. in Political Science in 2008 from Humboldt State University. 

Before working for NCYL, Miranda provided administrative support to non-profit organizations including the League of Women Voters of California and Alameda County Meals on Wheels. She remains active with both organizations; serving as a board member for LWV Oakland and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Miranda also enjoys volunteering her time as a youth literacy tutor and as a workshop facilitator for incarcerated youth.
