Tracy has worked in non-profit communications for the past 12 years, managing the communications of both local and national organizations. In her former life, Tracy was an award-winning journalist, working as a daily newspaper reporter on the East Coast, where she covered crime, politics, and the courts. She was also a staff writer for the New Jersey Law Journal, a statewide legal publication, and spent a year abroad as newscaster for “Metropolis,” an English-language radio station in Prague, Czech Republic. Tracy received her MSJ with distinction from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, and a BS in Political Science from Ithaca College.
Prior to joining NCYL in 2004, Tracy served as communications director for Civic Ventures, a national non-profit in San Francisco that works to expand the role of older adults in public service. She was also director of outreach and communications for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Santa Cruz County, which pairs volunteer advocates with children in the foster care system. Tracy lives with her family in Emeryville, CA, where she is an active member of RULE, a residents’ group dedicated to increasing transparency of city government and protecting citizens’ quality of life.
