William L. Grimm joined NCYL in 1988 and has been lead counsel for the Center’s class action foster care reform litigation in Arkansas, Utah, Washington, and Clark County (Las Vegas), Nevada. Bill holds a B.A. from the University of Maryland (1972), and earned his law degree from the same university’s school of law in 1975. Under his leadership, the Maryland Legal Aid Bureau, Inc. implemented a specialized child advocacy office. For several years prior to joining NCYL, Bill was director of that statewide program. Bill is widely recognized as one of the country’s leading experts on the problems of children in foster care. He has published extensively, and speaks and trains regularly on foster care issues. In 2005, the National Legal Aid and Defender Association (NLADA) awarded him the Kutak-Dodds Prize for his work on behalf of low-income children. In 1994, he was honored for his career of service when he received the American Bar Association's John Minor Wisdom Public Service and Professionalism Award.
