Sept. 4, 2008 - The most extensive single-state survey of foster youth anywhere in the country has been released by Washington State officials as part of the state’s efforts to reform its foster care system. Judge Says County Must Produce Thousands of Files, Orders Sanctions
August 2008 - A federal judge last week gave Clark County Child Welfare Officials until Oct. 3 to turn over 1,100 child abuse files to the National Center for Youth Law (NCYL) and has also ordered they pay NCYL’s legal fees for the court fight to get the files. Media Coverage: Editorial News
June 30 , 2008- A Superior Court Judge in Washington State has ruled that the state’s Department of Social and Health Services must keep the promises it made four years ago to dramatically improve the care and protection of the state’s 10,000 foster children. March 28, 2008 - The National Center for Youth Law (NCYL) and co-counsel have renewed their motion for class certification in Clark K. v. Willden, a lawsuit seeking broad reform of the child welfare system in Clark County (Las Vegas), Nevada.
January 2008 - The first year of the new Alameda County Juvenile Collaborative Court was a great success. The purpose of the Court is to divert youth with mental health issues from the juvenile justice system.
December 13, 2007 - The state’s largest and most influential groups advocating for homeless individuals with mental illness have sued Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to restore a highly effective program they say is vital to their clients’ safety and well-being.
Court Commends Parties for Their Success June 29, 2007 - The federal District Court in Utah yesterday approved an agreement between the National Center for Youth Law (NCYL) and Utah officials to end a longstanding suit to reform Utah’s child welfare system.
