Dyer v. CIF Chronology

The California Interscholastic Federation finds that Dalton Dyer, who had moved to Placer County to live in foster care placement with his an aunt in August, had not been eligible to play in the first five games of the football season because he had not submitted paperwork supposedly required by CIF bylaws. The decision forced Placer to forfeit thee of their wins, costing them a spot in the playoffs.

November 13, 2008

Dyer and Placer High appeal to the CIF. They are heard by a three-person appeals panel in the Sac-Joaquin Section.

November 15, 2008

The appeals panel decides to uphold the CIF Commissioner’s decision.

Friday, November 21, 2008

A Superior Court Judge in Oakland issues a temporary restraining order delaying the first round postseason game for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV playoffs between the Oakdale Mustangs and the Colfax Falcons in order to hear arguments on behalf of Dyer.

An Alameda County Judge rules that the CIF bylaws requiring special paperwork to be filled out by foster youth in order to be eligible to play high school sports violated state law and ordered Placer back into the playoffs.

Friday, November 28, 2008

Placer, who was a two-touchdown underdog, upsets Oakdale in the first round playoff game 27-14.

The Hillmen defeat the Dixon Rams 24-21 in the second round playoff game.

Friday, December 12, 2008

Placer is defeated by the Whitney High School Wildcats 35-14 in the finals of the Section Championship.
