Katherine Alagar Leaves NCYL to Study Public Policy

Katherine Alagar, NCYL’s Assistant to the Director for the past two years, has left NCYL to pursue a Masters in Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon’s Heinz School in Pittsburgh, PA. She has been awarded a Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) fellowship from Carnegie Mellon, receiving a full tuition scholarship and stipend towards living expenses.

Katherine was an invaluable member of the NCYL team, working on maintaining and updating the website, providing tech and administrative support to the staff, and working closely with the administrative team on various projects.

She received a B.A. in Cognitive Science from UC Berkeley in 2005. Before joining NCYL, Katherine did youth development work with Harlem Children's Zone TRUCE, which helps youth develop video and other media technology skills. She also worked as a tutor at Making Waves Educational Program in Richmond, CA.

Katherine is excited about this new opportunity, but, she says, “I will definitely miss NCYL. These last two years have been such a great experience. I have had the opportunity to work with very talented and amazing people and be a part of such a wonderful organization!”

We will miss you too!!
