New Additions to the NCYL Team
July 6, 2011- NCYL welcomes Walter P. “Pat” Loughlin and Victoria L. Boesch to its Board of Directors. Attorney Kathy Sher also joins NCYL as a volunteer helping to coordinate NCYL’s legislative work in California.
Walter P. "Pat" Loughlin is a litigation partner in the New York office of K&L Gates LLP. He is a member of his firm's Pro Bono Committee and coordinates pro bono matters in the New York office. A former Assistant US Attorney and Chief Appellate Attorney in the Southern District of New York, Loughlin served as Associate Independent Counsel in the Iran-Contra prosecutions and was director of the London Office of the Vera Institute of Justice. He currently teaches a seminar at Columbia Law School on the Interplay of Civil and Criminal Law. He is a recipient of the Thurgood Marshall Award from the Association of the Bar of the City of New York for his work in obtaining the release of a client from death row in Texas.
Victoria L. Boesch is a litigator at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP in San Francisco, specializing in class action and employment litigation. She serves on the Leadership Council for the Volunteer Legal Services Program of the San Francisco Bar Association, and her current pro bono work includes revising the Handbook for Litigants Without a Lawyer for the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
Kathy Sher has worked in Sacramento as a legislative advocate for California Attorneys for Criminal Justice, an association of criminal defense attorneys. There, she lobbied on criminal and juvenile justice issues, seeking more just and humane treatment of people accused or convicted of crimes. In 2001, Kathy became Staff Counsel to the CaliforniaAssembly Judiciary Committee, working on issues ranging from civil rights to family law to civil procedure. Most recently, Kathy has been practicing business and land use law at Harper & Associates in Emeryville.
