By any parent's standards, Tracy Dossman had a full house.
When 4 1/2-year-old Amariana Crenshaw died in her care in January 2008, the single foster mother had nine children, ages 4 to 19 living in her North Natomas home – plus an assortment of young adults and other kids drifting in and out.
The Sacramento Bee launched an investigation into the death of foster child Amariana Crenshaw, bringing to light failures of the county and private foster agencies and raising new questions about the child’s life and death in her foster home.

L.A. County Welfare Agency Refuses to Release Files on Children's Deaths

The LA Times has extensively covered recent child deaths in Los Angeles County and the county’s refusal to allow access to information that should made public in accordance with Senate Bill 39, which NCYL co-sponsored. Visit Innocents Betrayed: A Times Investigation to read the coverage.
NCYL and the private firm of Perkins Coie filed a petition for a writ of habeas corpus on Jan. 29, 2010 in Riverside County Superior Court to vacate the conviction of Sara Kruzan. Kruzan is serving a sentence of life without parole for a fatal shooting she committed in 1994 when she was 16 years old. The Court denied that petition and Sara’s counsel re-filed it in the Court of Appeals, where it is now pending.
