NCYL 2008 Law Clerk Vernetta Alston recently began working at the Center for Death Penalty Litigation in Durham, North Carolina.
NCYL 2004 law clerk Lauren Brady has left Legal Services for Children, where she focused on education issues, to work at the San Francisco Juvenile Public Defender’s Office on educational advocacy for children in the delinquency system. Lauren is married to former NCYL law clerk Brian Blalock. They are one of four couples in NCYL’s history to have gotten married. Does anyone know the other three? Former NCYL law clerk Caroline Jacobs is now working as a clerk to Federal Magistrate Jacqueline Scott Corley of the US Court for the Northern District of California. Caroline and her husband, Mike, live in the East Bay with their son Jameson who is now 20 months old. Caroline graduated from UC Davis School of Law, and worked for several years at Disability Rights Advocates in Oakland.
Former NCYL law clerk Ben Winig has left private practice to accept a job at Public Health Law and Policy in Oakland where he is a Senior Staff Attorney. He is providing technical legal and policy assistance to elected officials, public agency staff, and community organizations on all aspects of land use planning to support community health and well-being.
Ben is married to Mala Subramanian and lives in Walnut Creek with their adorable son Rohan. (See photo). Rohan is the grandson of very proud grandparents and long-time NCYL donors Hugh R. Winig, M.D., and his wife, Mary Anne.
Sara Woodward was a Skadden Fellow with NCYL from 2003 to 2005. In March 2011, she joined the US Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of Michigan as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. She continues to live in Detroit with her husband Jim, and their two children, Penelope, 7, and Gram, 4. (See photo.)
